Critics Sentiment
Pootie Tang and Biggie Shorty defeat all henchmen
Pootie Tang falls apart and loses cultural status
The movie crashes from a strong opening (7.2) to its weakest point during Pootie's downfall (3.8), a drop of 3.4 points as the premise wore thin.
Pootie Tang starts strong with genuinely funny crime-fighting action that reviewers compared favorably to blaxploitation classics, but quickly loses momentum as the plot develops and the gibberish dialogue gimmick wears thin. The middle section representing Pootie's downfall and farm retreat tests audience patience, before recovering somewhat in the final act with better physical comedy and action sequences, though never quite recapturing the opening's energy.
