The Dream Child opens strong with an effective shower trap sequence but quickly deteriorates as reviewers found the unborn baby dreaming concept ridiculous. While some creative death sequences like the motorcycle and comic book kills earned praise for their special effects, the film was widely criticized for poor pacing, bad acting, and turning Freddy into an unfunny comedian rather than a scary villain, culminating in a laughably bad finale.
